Adega do Saloio

A charming local restaurant with excellently made traditional fare five minutes from Sintra’s center by car

Rua Alvaro dos Reis N32, Chão de Meninos
219 231 422
Daily, 12h – 15h; 19h – 22h

A charmingly lit wood-trimmed interior, beautifully-made fresh bread, excellent fresh cheeses, and a morcela to make even the bloodiest of blood sausages jealous — this place has all the makings of the kind of traditional Portuguese restaurant that is becoming increasingly more difficult to find in Sintra’s more touristic areas. You won’t find selfie sticks or tuk tuks here, just waiters who have been working there forever serving high-quality well-priced dishes that rival your Granny’s. Try the bacalhau com natas if you’d like to sample a creamy recipe of Portugal’s favorite fish or opt for the duck rice if you’ve already over-indulged in seafood and are craving something simple. The grilled octopus is particularly yummy if you’re still hungry, but leave room for port wine with dessert if you can! With dishes this delicious, it’s difficult to exhibit self-control, so no one’s judging you if dessert just isn’t an option, but if it is… the doce da casa (house sweet) is awesome.
