Our colleagues in the English-language press in Portugal have decided that Russian spy ships off the coast of Portugal this weekend, and the Portuguese immigrants in Newark voting for immigrant-opposing Trump in the most recent U.S. presidential election, and the protests planned in Portugal to bring a tiny bit of attention to climate change were all pretty boring news stories. Among other world events.
The leading story for “TPN” today was, and we’re not making this up, about an “international” cheese competition.
That was the very first topic of our fine English-language decades-old publication’s email newsletter on Nov. 19, 2024, on this historic day when the world all of a sudden faces the chance of a potential nuclear retaliatory strike by Russia that’s higher than at any point since the Cuban missile crisis, in light of Ukraine launching some long-range missiles into Russia after the decision of U.S. President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine – about six or seven weeks before Biden isn’t president of the U.S. anymore — to lob expensive American bombs into Russia.
Amid of all this nonsense, the top story in TPN’s lineup of all the important stuff that took place over the prior 72 hours or so concerned a sheep cheese (which, to be fair, is one of our favorites).
Actually, now that we read the headline — this is exactly why we moved here, isn’t it?
