Bar Mignon

American football-themed tasca, believe it or not

Blink and you’ll miss this tiny tasca bar, unless there’s a crowd enjoying their copos al fresco on the sidewalk. Mignon is everything a neighborhood bar should be: cheap beers, good selection of the hard stuff, particularly whiskeys, smoking allowed, room for no more than 10-15 people and, hallelujah, even air-conditioning, a rarity for Lisbon’s older spots (mind the drip if you’re sitting in the cute corner nook). Most surprisingly, Mignon is decorated with football paraphernalia, and we don’t mean soccer — good old American football, the one with the helmets and the spandex pants, if you’re into that sort of thing. But a sports bar this isn’t, although there’s a small TV so maybe you’ll get lucky and see a Patriots game here. Added bonus: Mignon carries Brugal, the excellent and inexpensive rum from the Dominican Republic. And if you get hungry, you’re just a few blocks away from one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in the country, Macau Dim Sum.
