Casting Off With the Artist Collective Guarda Rios on Portugal’s Rivers

Happy Earth Day! Since about 71% of the Earth is made up of water, perhaps it’s time we pay tribute to Portugal’s own with a little art, some PVC, and lots of gumption.

Atlas drove up to Lagoa de Obidos to get our feet wet with Lisbon-based artist Francisco Pinheiro and his colleagues Laura Marques and Nuno Barroso while learning about their latest project — inspired by Portugal’s rivers, Huckleberry Finn, and Kon-Tiki. Here’s what we learned:
