Sep 21 @ 09:00 – 18:00
MARKET | Antiques | Estrela | FREE @ Jardim da Estrela

Antiques of all kinds, some crafts and artisanal goods, both edible and wearable, all in a get-away-from-it-all setting.

Everyone’s selling antiques in Lisbon these days, and the market held in Jardim da Estrela every third Saturday carries much the same as many others: old brass handles, pieces of chandeliers, those African statuettes that no one wants, and the occasional treasure. Like most antique markets, this one also has a decent selection of artisanal jewelry and some food. What makes it special is the setting: this quiet park in a residential area of the city is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Feira da Ladra or anything in the center. There’s a cafe right next to it if you need some liquid courage.

P.S.: If you’re worried about three hours up and down the eight (ask your guide) hills of Lisbon, we know for a fact that last August, in the sweltering heat, an American woman did the whole tour, effortlessly, with a smile on her face… a mere five days before giving birth.

Weekly to Oct 29 | ART WORKSHOP | Drawing with Wine | Avenida | 20€
Sep 24 @ 18:00 – 20:00
Weekly to Oct 29 | ART WORKSHOP | Drawing with Wine | Avenida | 20€ @ Teatro Sao Jorge | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

Would you like to sketch a 149-year old street (Avenida da Liberdade) while sipping some wine on the terrace of a 70-something-year-old theatre (São Jorge Theatre) while using said wine as your main medium?
Well, if you’ve got 20 bucks, then every Tuesday in September and October you have the chance to channel your inner Van Gogh like a true artist — with booze.

The organizers, Wine with a View, add:
“Get to know the bustling life of the avenue at Wine With a View Avenida…and take a closer look at what you can’t see at first glance. At each session, an observation exercise will be proposed and the possibility to explore painting with wine will be offered.

About the guide:
“Sofia Arez is a Portuguese artist, researcher, and educator driven by a deep interest in nature and perception. Her work is a constant dialogue and it progresses as a ‘conversation’ between the maker and the spontaneous findings, suggested by the multitude forms of life.
She was born in Lisbon in 1972 and holds a master’s in Painting from the University of Lisbon.”

20€ per session.

Space may be limited so reserve your spot here.

And, remember, no matter how mature or immature your final product is — at least here you can lick the brush freely. Hell, you can even drink the ink!

Saude!

Sep 25 @ 18:00 – 22:00
Weekly | WORKSHOP | DIY-day at Disgraça | Graça | FREE @ Disgraça | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

DIY has become a vague term in recent years. After all, we’re all in it together, right? Moreover, big business is all about buzzwords…
Nevertheless, with minimum wage persistently low and rent increasingly high, the times are riper than ever for some good old-fashioned do-it-yourself fun.
Disgraça, one of Lisbon’s best little-known venues for, among other things, light vegan dinners and heavy punk rock shows, is a pretty good definition of DIY (read their story here). That’s why every Wednesday they are hosting “DIY-day.” We’ll let them do the rest:
“We bring two really good things together – creating stuff AND hanging out with nice people.
Drop in any Wednesday from 18h!
Bring your own material!
NO DINNER but the bar is open and we will also provide some snacks.
To begin with, we will just learn from each other and so on, but in the future, there may be some workshops… bring your ideas!”

Weekly to Oct 29 | ART WORKSHOP | Drawing with Wine | Avenida | 20€
Oct 1 @ 18:00 – 20:00

Saude!

Weekly | WORKSHOP | DIY-day at Disgraça | Graça | FREE

FREE ENTRY.

Weekly | MARKET | Craft & Design | Estrela | FREE
Oct 5 @ 10:00 – 19:00
Weekly | MARKET | Craft & Design | Estrela | FREE @ Jardim da Estrela | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

This is probably the most relaxed craft market in town, thanks to its position in the tranquil and beautifully cared-for Jardim da Estrela. It’s also surprisingly diverse and offers more than your average home-made soaps and ankle bracelets. We can’t guarantee she’ll be there every time, but we once saw a woman here selling one-of-a-kind, perfectly creepy oversized papier-mâché dolls, for example.

The first weekend of every month, except January.

ALL YEAR | GUIDED TOUR | Alfama and Mouraria Free Walking Tour | Rossio | FREE
Oct 5 @ 10:30 – 13:30
ALL YEAR | GUIDED TOUR | Alfama and Mouraria Free Walking Tour | Rossio | FREE @ VARIOUS LOCATIONS

The best way to experience history is to live it. That’s why our friends at Live History offer you an immersive three-hour glimpse into two of the most historical, oldest, and most alive neighborhoods in Lisbon: Mouraria and Alfama.
Free of charge.

The guides are enthusiastic, charming polyglots. They’re funny, welcome and respond thoughtfully to questions, intimidatingly knowledgeable, easy to follow (both on foot and in thought), and truly seem to care.
Also, their only pay is the love of their city and your tip at the end. Remember, these are locals and, despite what AirBnB might believe, need to live here too. So tip well if you feel you’ve lived some history!

What to know:
-You can pre-book a spot on our Marketplace. Or if you’re reading this the morning of, you could try to meet them at 10h30 by the statue at the center of Praça Dom Pedro IV, also known as Rossio square.
-The guides wear white Live History t-shirts, have white umbrellas, and are dressed up as Portuguese crusaders and navigators if you’re lucky.
-Available languages: English / Spanish (languages on demand: Portuguese / French / Czech / Slovak).
-These are free walking tours. Donations welcome at the end.
-Comfortable shoes and a water bottle are advisable.

Contact them if you need more info, or “if you feel the need for your own private tailor-made tour.”

And read Atlas‘ in-depth interview with Live History co-founder Jofre Correia here.

P.S.: If you’re worried about three hours up and down the eight (ask your guide) hills of Lisbon, we know for a fact that last August, in the sweltering heat, an American woman did the whole tour, effortlessly, with a smile on her face… a mere five days before giving birth.

A mix between old and new, as the organizers like to describe it, the monthly market at CCB is a combination of traditional and urban art, vintage and freshly-sewn clothes, and an impressive array of delicacies like jams and honeys, as well as soaps and even plants. There’s also a seasonal fruits and vegetables stand that’s very reasonably priced for such a hip affair.
