to Sept 22 | ART AND MUSIC FEST | Festival Iminente 2019 | Monsanto | 15€ @ Panorâmico de Monsanto | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

What’s a good way to end your summer?
How about with an art and music festival inside some cool post-apocalyptic-yet-intact semi-ruins inside a forest in Lisbon?
Restaurant Panorámico (aka Panorâmico de Monsanto), the abandoned, off-the-beaten-path architectural marvel overlooking the city, welcomes back Festival Iminente 2019 this weekend for four days of well-rounded fun.

From the organizers:
“That’s right, it’s Festival Iminente once again. It might not even be such a good idea to gather in the same place activists of an emerging and urban culture. But that’s the way we are, we like to do what we believe in. New music and new art. Restless and explosive lusophone culture. Manifestos for freedom of expression and human rights. Diversity. At the Panorâmico de Monsanto, where the future has always been made.
After making its way around the world – London, Shanghai, and Rio de Janeiro – Iminente is now returning to Lisbon for four days of collective cultural intimacy, reflecting on the concepts of Identity and Diversity. And there’s nothing like returning home…”

Over 100 artists, from 11 nationalities, on five stages, plus 5000 lucky kids a day, for four days of visual and performance arts, sculpture, painting, photography, graffiti, hip-hop, trap, b-boys, b-girls, as well as fado, world music, world dancers, talks, workshops, etc..
And a few surprises are likely imminent too.

Learn the deets, including the full line-up, here.

Check out highlights from last year here.

TICKETS*: 15€ per day, on sale here.
*There are only 5000 day tickets – no festival passes – and, like previous years, there are no ticket booths or ticket sales at the gates.

Sep 20 @ 23:59 – Sep 21 @ 06:00
PARTY | Queer Lisboa 23: Festa de Abertura | Cais do Sodré | 5€ @ Titanic Sur Mer | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

The 23d edition of the Queer Lisboa film festival hits Lisbon September 20, and Titanic Sur Mer is jumping on board with an opening party, aptly titled Opening of the Festival.
They describe it as having “a strong Brazilian flavor and propelled by activism.”

VENGA, VENGA, “hit duo of Lisbon nightlife,” are the headliners, and plan to keep the party going ’til sunrise. Here’s how they describe themselves:
“EXTRAVAGANZA. TROPICAL. HEDONISTIC. NOMAD.
This cultural project invites you to transcendence, blending folklore with musical experience. These sons of nomadism display sounds and aesthetics that go from the eccentricity of remote cultures to the most metropolitan subversions.”

Warming the crowd up to said metropolitan subversions, around midnight, will be local Catxibi from the female collective Thug Unicorn and Rádio Quântica.

Entry: 5€.

Here’s a taste.

Weekly | DANCE PARTY | Caos no Sodré: Altamont Sessions | Cais do Sodré | FREE @ O Bom O Mau e O Vilão | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

Saturday nights in Cais do Sodré can get quite chaotic. Trust us…
But that doesn’t mean that, amidst the chaos, you can’t find solace in some good music. Here’s what O Bom O Mau e O Vilão, the organizers of “Caos no Sodré,” say:
“Attention all Gunslingers: Altamont is pleased to present Rock as a fuse for a epic dancing night to the sound of The Beatles, The Stones, Hendrix, The Smiths, REM, Blur, Nirvana, Joy Division, The Clash, The Ramones, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, among many others! This Saturday night will get more flavor with the new Jameson Ginger and Lime! Come and try it.”

We’re not sure about the “Jameson Ginger and Lime” bit, but the line-up definitely sounds to be in good order.

Sep 25 @ 23:55 – Sep 26 @ 06:00
Weekly | MUSIC | Hump Day: 70s DJs at MUSICBOX | Cais do Sodré | TBD @ MUSICBOX | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

Hump day, for you second-language speakers, comes in part from the phrase over the hump.

Other than that, we think the organizers of this weekly boogie describe it better than we ever could:
“𝙃𝙐𝙈𝙋 𝘿𝘼𝙔 means Wednesdays. The high point of the week. It’s that day that tells you that the worst has passed and the best is about to come. The middle can mean virtue but it can also mean sin, pleasure, and freedom on the dance floor, listening to surprising groovy sounds that turn you up and work like a desert mirage, giving you the strength you need to get to the oasis that is the weekend.
This weekly party is an invitation to celebrate just because. And because Lisbon is the coolest place in the universe, at least according to that hipster article in New York or whatever.
Wednesdays are the new Thursdays, or the old Fridays, or the future Saturdays, or whatever you want them to be. Come by MUSICBOX in Cais do Sodré and you’ll find that Wednesdays are your new favorite day.”

NOTE: They usually charge at the door, but not much, and it’s basically just a way to trick you into getting a beer.
Which you might need on hump day.

All we have to add is this stupid commercial from back in the day.

WEEKLY | BreakBeat Sundays at MusicBox | Cais do Sodré | TBD @ Musicbox | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

From MusicBox, the organizers:
“Breakbeat is a widely used rhythm in funk, hip-hop or bass music, characterized by being unpredictable and contrary to the usual 4/4, resulting in a much more energetic cadence.”
So, if you find yourself stranded on Pink Street on a Sunday night and looking for a much more energetic cadence, you know where to go. The BreakBeat night actually starts at 1 am, but you know how these digital calendars are.

ENTRY: TBD (usually a beer or two).

Here’s some breakbeat for ya.

to Dec 31 | OPEN-CALL VIDEO ART SHOWCASE | Loopcave at Desterro | Intendente | FREE @ Desterro | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

Are you a struggling videographer, artist, and/or filmmaker who wants nothing more than to have their images looped in a dingy little ungentrified after-hours hotspot in the heart of this great city?
If so, you’re in luck.

We’ll let the organizers take it from here:
“Year-round Open Call.
LOOPCAVE is a video art showcase dedicated to the loop organized in the Desterro‘s cave, in Lisbon. Fortnightly, with the purpose of opening the most diverse windows for the culture of the new artistic media, selected videos will be displayed via a monthly open call. The open calls are open every month until the end of the year, and two pieces are selected each month.

All videos must be submitted via email with the following info:
– name of the artist;
– small bio of the artist;
– link to the video;
– short description of the video (title, time, format and credits).”
