MUSIC BATTLE | Festival Termómetro #25: Final Round | Marvila | 5-10€
Jan 25 @ 21:30 – Jan 26 @ 00:30
MUSIC BATTLE | Festival Termómetro #25: Final Round | Marvila | 5-10€ @ LAV - Lisboa ao Vivo | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

The thermometer is a device that measures temperature which dates back to the 16th century, said to have been invented by Italian physician Santorio Santorio.

Festival Termómetro (“Thermometer Festival”) was invented by Portuguese weirdo, radio-broadcaster, and TV personality Fernando Alvim in Porto. It, like its creator, dates back to the previous millenium — 1994, to be exact. It is a yearly musical contest of sorts that measures and promotes the country’s emerging talent.

In 2019 the festival celebrated its 25th year when 24 local bands duked it out across the country (and in Madrid) to see who was hot and who was not. These were gradually narrowed down to a lucky five.

On Saturday, January 25th, LAV – Lisboa ao Vivo hosts the grande finale of Termómetro’s 25th edition, and the lucky line-up is (drum roll):
Flor (from Funchal),
Foggy (from Palermo, Italy),
Rope Walkers (from Lisbon),
Bia Maria (from Ourém),
and SOHO SOHO (from Lisbon).

And, alas, there can be only one.
So, even with Lisbon’s recent thermometer readings, things are likely to get heated.

The winners get:
-a slot in the next editions of the NOS Alive and Bons Sons festivals;
-a music video;
-20 free studio hours;
-eternal glory.

The five finalists will also be joined on stage by loclas First Breath After Coma.

5-10€ tikcets here or at the door.

Jan 26 @ 20:00 – Jan 27 @ 04:00
WEEKLY | MUSIC AND DANCE | Viva o Samba at Titanic Sur Mer | Cais do Sodré | 10€ @ Titanic Sur Mer | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

If you live in Lisbon, chances are you know at least one person that loves samba.
And if you’ve been down by the river on any given Sunday night lately, then you may have witnessed the madness that is Viva o Samba at Titanic Sur Mer.
If not — we highly recommend it.

The organizers describe it as “Europe’s most engaging cultural event,” and we’re tempted to agree.
They add:
“Everyone is invited.
Here our gratitude is expressed for so many shared joys, and all the positive vibrations that we’re emanating into the universe. We are all the resistance that samba needs to never be forgotten; or, rather, always remembered.
Come on!”

Stop by any Sunday through March and witness the magic for yourself.
It’s definitely a night to remember.

ENTRY: 10€.

Here’s a glimpse of the madness.

LIVE MUSIC | Brief Candles + Cavalo55 | Intendente | FREE-3€
Jan 26 @ 21:00 – 23:30
LIVE MUSIC | Brief Candles + Cavalo55 | Intendente | FREE-3€ @ Sirigaita | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

Brief Candles is a near-century-old collection of short stories by that dude that wrote Brave New World, gave Jim Morrison his band name, and died of cancer while tripping on acid. Thank you for keeping it real, Mr. Huxley.

Brief Candles is also a local musician who makes “melancholic pop songs” and dabbles in “anti-folk slowness.”

The latter Brief Candles is coming to bookshop and bar on a street with character Sirigaita this Sunday night with his guitar and possibly a cat.

Cavalo 55 (“Horse 55”) is also a musician who describes himself as “half man, half horse” that “sings songs from the past so as not to be afraid of the future.”

FREE ENTRY with a 3€ annual membership; donations for Brief Candles and the half-horse welcome.

Feb 4 @ 19:30 – 23:00
Bi-Weekly | OPEN MIC | Shaka's Tuesday night at Camones Cinebar | Graça | FREE @ Camones CineBar | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

Open mics are traditionally a sh.tshow.
But the host of this one, Joaquim de Brito, aka Shaka, however, is a local legend, a musically speaking jack of all trades, a semi-god among men, and an overall nice fella. And Claudia — office-worker turned badass bar-tender/-owner, pro at making anyone feel at home with her smile, and woman behind low-key chill spot Camones Cinebar — is the yin to Shaka’s yang.

Their bi-weekly “open mic for all arts, all ages” stands out. Here, people actually come for the mic part. It is still open mic, which means that most of the art… leaves much to be desired. But at least someone’s listening. Every other Tuesday throughout the year.

NOTE: If you want to perform (or just get a seat), get there and/or sign up early. It’s usually a full house by 20h.

Every other Tuesday, starting at 19h30.

All ages and art forms welcome.

FREE ENTRY.
