Just a stone’s throw away from Coliseu is the charming Mexican cantina aptly named El Paso, after the Texan border town. This straightforward cantina and cocktail bar has just about everything you would expect from a Texas-mex menu: classic margaritas (as well as their versions in flavors other than lime), cheesy nachos, stuffed jalapeno poppers, chimichangas, burrito verduras, and more, all served with a smile.
This spot also has live music every night from 19h – 21h, but don’t assume it’s akin to that mariachi band you’ve been following on Spotify, it’s likely a local crooner covering old soft rock standards. Regardless of the tunes, the interior is a delight to look at. Check out the old photographs from Mexico and the myriad postcards on the wall that give the place the authentic charm lacking in the music.
Definitely recommended for a late night dinner with friends who appreciate a decently-priced margarita and the odd plate of nachos here and there.
