El Pibe

Memorable empanadas named after historical figures from South America

300, Tv. Santa Marta 4, 1150-300 Lisboa
Mon – Sat: 12h30 – 17h, 19h – 23h30

Great service, cavernous, yet cozy space, and exceptional empanadas. This place is popular with students and groups because the empanadas are roll-your-eyes-back good and they’re more than reasonably priced.

Never had an empanada? This is the place to try one of these savory hand-held explosions of flavor. Go for the classic meat, veggie, or chicken flavors, or be adventurous and choose a few from El Pibe’s house recipes; Their namesake empanada is stuffed with delicious octopus, for example. Atlas recommends selecting two or three different empanadas per person, and getting some mango ceviche and chimichurri sauce for the table to share. And you won’t have any trouble identifying which is which when they come to the table— the restaurant has a three-color dot system to help you keep it straight…you’ll see what we mean.

Last but not least, the 50cl jars of wine are 4€ and the empanadas are between 2 and 3€, so you can expect to pay about 15€ per person to leave pleasantly full and slightly tipsy. Highly recommended!

One word of caution: watch out for cars during the short trek up and down the travessa— it gets pretty tight in there!
