Walking into Enora, you’d swear you’d found a winner. The interior is draped in welcoming, evocative maritime charm—the kind of place where you instinctively want to order something bitter and briny. And we did: negronis and oysters on the half shell were exactly what the captain ordered. The front-of-house staff were perfectly attentive, suggesting a well-oiled machine running smoothly, at least from the waist up. But as the night unfolded, one couldn’t help but feel that Enora is a bit adrift, with a crew that hasn’t quite found its sea legs.
We started with a dozen oysters. They were, thankfully, opened (a small victory!) but the flesh was inexplicably left attached to the shell, a rookie mistake we generously put down to inexperience. The corvina ceviche that followed was perfectly palatable but, in a city swimming in dazzlingly fresh, inventive seafood, it proved utterly, tragically unremarkable. The culinary climax was the surf and turf: while undeniably tasty, the portion size was bafflingly tiny. Throw in three respectable glasses of Burmeister tinto and a bottle of bubbly water, and the final hundred-euro tab felt less like a satisfying conclusion and more like a cinematic plot twist. That stings a bit when the decor promises excellence but the food delivers “just fine.”
Enora has the bones—the great look, the drinks, the semi-attentive service, the potential. But it’s not yet the well-oiled machine that can justify that price point or take up an entire evening. Maybe they were having an off night, and maybe they’ll find their rhythm, but until the kitchen catches up to the atmosphere, curb your enthusiasm. If you know what truly memorable Portuguese food can be, you may save your main event for elsewhere. Instead, mark this spot as your destination for a gorgeous pre-Tivoli Theatre cocktail and a dozen oysters, but bring your carving knife.
