to July 18 | DANCE AND THEATER FESTIVAL | 35th Festival of Almada | Almada | FREE to 75€
For the 35th year, the Almada Festival brings together hundreds of actors, playwrights, musicians, choreographers, set designers, and more, putting on dozens of plays, dance performances, concerts, sketch pieces, and even three days of workshops, led this year by the master Portuguese choreographer Olga Roriz, whose work continues to grace the stage of Teatro Camões in Parque de Nações. The festival runs from July 4 to 18 across several venues in Almada, which you can easily get to by bus from Cacilhas (which is reachable by ferry from Cais do Sodré in Lisbon for not much money).
Note: The festival is international, so expect to hear plays not just in Portuguese, but in French, Italian, German, and Spanish, too, with Portuguese subtitles. If your Portuguese isn’t great, there are also many dance performances!
