ACTIVISM | Dialogues without Borders 2020, Session 1: Yemen | Chiado | FREE
January 29, 2020 @ 18:30 - 20:00
You might have heard of it.
And, if you have, then you probably heard that that place is kind of f.cked.
Caught in the crossfire of the geopolitical chess game that is World War III, more than 20 million there are in need of humanitarian assistance. At least three million have been forced to flee their homes. And with the U.S. government’s democracy-dropping drones in the air and freedom-enforcing jocks on the ground left, right, up and down, from Baghdad to Bangalore, things are only getting worse.
But there is hope, because Médicos Sem Fronteiras (“Doctors without Borders,” the Portuguese version) doesn’t want to just sit back and watch.
Here’s what they say:
“For decades now indiscriminate bombardments and a chronic shortage of supplies and medical professionals caused the closure of more than half of the health units in the country. Médecins Sans Frontières’ programs in Yemen are among the most extensive that the organization has worldwide, with teams in 13 hospitals and health centers and providing support to another 20 health units in 12 regions. They currently have programs in Yemen that are among the most extensive that the organization has worldwide, with teams in 13 hospitals and health centers and providing support to another 20 health units in 12 regions.
The endless armed conflict in Yemen is the first theme in the Dialogues Without Borders cycle, a series of open conversations organized by Doctors Without Borders in Portugal throughout 2020, and with which the humanitarian medical organization focuses on different contexts in which their teams work in different parts of the world.
Promoting a reflection that involves the direct testimonies of Doctors Without Borders professionals, the look of journalists and the experience of other NGOs in the field, the various events of the Dialogues Without Borders cycle are open to the public and with free entry.
The first event of Dialogues Without Borders 2020 MSF Portugal is now on the agenda:
Armed Conflicts: Yemen, an endless conflict in sight.
January 29, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Casa do Impacto, Bairro Alto.”
