Here’s what underground underdogs with dignity Desterro say about this Friday night:
“‘The Occupy movement,’ says Noam Chomsky, ‘is the first major public reaction to thirty years of class warfare,’ a movement driven by the masses that began in New York on September 17, 2011, and quickly spread to thousands of locations around the world.’
(Noam Chomsky – Occupy (Antígona – 2013).
A temporal coincidence that we decided to work on. The refusal of a celebration, totally devoid of meaning, but a more than necessary set of questions – Why was such a broad, grassroots movement quickly smothered? What remains of this movement that still impacts daily life today? Was it internal organizational failures or the perpetuation of the ruling class that dynamited a set of extremely valid assumptions? What can we still do to combat the chronic deficit of questioning, contestation, and revolt so common to the Portuguese people, in particular, but unfortunately not a national phenomenon?
From here we invited a set of artists who through their work have always maintained a very strong relationship with the issues raised by the Occupy movement.”
