CLASSICAL MUSIC (EASTER) | Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa: Concerto da Paixão | 17,50-30€
April 14 @ 19:00 - 21:00€30
Here’s what Pedro Neves of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra says:
“The representation of Christ’s suffering on the Cross is assumed in this program by three composers who are temporally distant from each other: Haydn, Brahms, and Martin. On the one hand, Haydn, the father of the symphony, uses the strength of the key, F Minor, as a crucial element for an emotional journey that goes beyond all limits (1768). Towards the end of his life, Brahms uses nine Lutheran verses to, through the organ, express all the expressive and religious charge of the words in his music (1896). Finally, from words to images, Martin opens a privileged way of communication with his religious and spiritual world, embodying the voice of Christ in a solo instrument, the violin, inspired by six panels depicting the Passion of Christ (1973).
It seems to us that these three different paths, these three different journeys, lead to the same place: expressing, experiencing, reproducing the state of mind of this spiritually important moment. However, it should also be noted that the starting point has a common name, JS Bach; each of the three composers contains a kind of inspiring reflection of this composer, so important to the History of Western Music.
This concert is undoubtedly an introspective moment of internal spiritual experience.”
