CLOSED – to April 28 | ART EXHIBIT | “Vicente: The Myth in Lisbon” | Campo Grande | 3€

March 6, 2019 @ 10:00 - 18:00

€3

If you ask a Lisboeta who the patron saint of Lisbon is, they’ll likely say “Saint Anthony.” Because of the parties (oh the parties!), his popularity has largely surpassed that of poor St. Vincent’s, who happens to be the official patron saint of Lisbon. His story is not a pleasant one: he was martyred for refusing to worship pagan gods in the 8th century, then his remains were set adrift on a boat that ended up in the most extreme southwest point of continental Europe, now called Cape St. Vincent. It was only in 1173 that his relics were finally discovered and sent by ship to Lisbon. Two ravens protected the ship during the whole trip, and the ship and the two crows became symbols of the city. The more you know!

Over 10 artists are taking over the Palacio Pimenta in Campo Grande to examine the various dimensions of life and legend of Lisbon’s historical patron saint: Vicente. Through sculpture, performance, installation, painting, video, drawing, illustration, and text, they tell Saint Vincent’s story.
