CONCERT | Bairro em Festa: MAZE + Francesco Valente | FREE

Bairro em Festa 2021 — the annual festival celebrating four of Lisbon’s coolest hoods — is in full swing this week. This Friday night, for example, it offers a dose of sound and rhythm, in the form of voice and loops and bass and flute, for your listening pleasure, free of charge.
Here’s what BOTA, the organizers of this portion of the Festa, say:
“By BOTA’s challenge, MAZE and Francesco Valente draw the soundscapes of a city that oscillates between the chaos of the hallucinating rhythm in which we are used to living and the ghost city that emerges from the current dystopias.
The duo proposes to conjugate works developed in parallel in the last year between Naples and Lisbon. Over the layer of sonoplastic textures that simultaneously evoke the whirlwind and the total emptiness, captured in these cities, Francesco’s double bass pulses and flute melodies are superimposed on Maze’s forceful words to make us embark on this journey to our core.”
