DINNER AND CONCERT | Fado meets Tango | Alfama | 5€+
Here’s some bite-size history for you:
-520 years ago, Portugal colonized Brazil.
-218 years ago, Brazil declared its independence from Portugal.
-20 years ago, Brazil and Portugal signed the Friendship, Cooperation and Consultation treaty.
-The two nations remain friends to this day.
This coming Monday night, restaurant Duetos da Sé invites you to a unique evening that explores this centuries-old trans-Atlantic semi-colonial connection through the universal languages of food, dance, and music.
Here’s how they describe it:
“Fado meets Tango. An artistic dialogue between two urban musical genres. Both Lisbon and Buenos Aires are cradles of these two distinct musical genres that have been recognized as ‘Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity’ by UNESCO. Despite being on opposite shores of the Atlantic, both musical traditions have their origins in remarkably similar contexts: neighborhoods located near the port, with a strong underground culture, where a cross-over of influences from diverse cultures – between locals and immigrants – took place. This concert offers a space of reunion and sharing between cultures, a musical journey that brings both traditions together – anchored in the very heart of Lisboa.”
Singers Cristina Clara and Aixa Figini will be accompanied by Sebastian Luna on the eight-string guitar.
