December 27, 2019 @ 16:00 - December 28, 2019 @ 03:00TBD
The dictionary defines ‘batuque’ as “an impassioned Brazilian dance of African origin.”
Mixcloud defines ‘batuque’ as “a sound movement that explores all the percussive drum rhythms and its legacy around the world.”
Crew Hassan presents its official Batuque Showcase this Saturday night; maybe you can find your own definition there.
Here’s Crew Hassan’s abundant batuque line-up for the evening (with deets about and links to each act):
“ASSALI is a young Guinean living in Lisbon for over 20 years. He recently started playing music. He has a special taste for African rhythms that, combined with his contagious energy, can bewitch the dance floor.
“BERGER brings us groove music, navigating between African and Latin sounds. Expect fresh sounds and unexpected beats on a journey driven by those who feel in music the need to share it.
GROSSO DJ is a member of Warface Lisboa, gem alfacinha, and a good connoisseur of darker records. His tunes move across disparate and eclectic languages, forgotten funks, danceable disks, and amenity breaks.
REMIS DOUSSOS, besides the obvious homage to the Greek god of romantic ballads, his name cultivates a taste for percussive rhythms, from bossa nova to broken beat, from 2-step to funk, from lo-fi to disco.
José Braima Galissá, teacher and master of the 22-string African instrument Kora, was born in Guinea-Bissau in 1964 among a family of Mandinga culture griots who have played Kora for over 600 years. He began learning Kora in the mid-1970s from his father’s hand. Today he is considered one of the best musicians representing the Mandinga culture.
MAMA DEMBA is a Dj set by JahRiver Ramos, member of the Badju D Terra Sound System and Mindel Reggae Familia collectives.
He’s a true archaeologist of music, where you can count on the groove of Cape Verde, Angola, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, and Antilles.”
