“Cinema Heden” comes to Chiado with a mini film cycle dedicated to, as they say, “the fertility, magic, and endless mysteries of the African continent.”
The two films on display (descriptions from organizers):
“Seeds (Sketch 1)” by Philippa Ndisi-Herrmann (2016), 4 mins.
-“The sea was the first to see us and so the sea will be the last to leave us. A visual poem from Kenya that explores blood memory, creation myths, and ancestry.”
New Moon by Philippa Ndisi-Herrmann (2018), 71 mins.
-“In this film, the director embarks on a journey to investigate a gigantic port project that threatens to disrupt the rhythm of a small, Islamic island off the East African coast. As the film unfolds, it becomes apparent, that the real disruption is Philippa’s confrontation of a new spiritual awareness through the Islamic Sufi Path.”
With English subtitles.
