Hot Clube Portugal is one of Lisbon’s — well, hottest clubs (when it comes to all things jazz) for 74 years and counting now. And here’s what they say about this Friday and Saturday evening performances by João Lencastre‘s ‘Free Celebration’:
“This group celebrates the music of Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols, and Ornette Coleman, where there may also be moments of pure improvisation. The use of some less conventional elements such as synthesizers and the junction of two drums, as well as the eclecticism of each element of the group, will give a new life to each composition.”
