LIVE MUSIC | Fado and Sevdalinka by Maja Milinkovic | Xabregas | 10€

Maja Milinkovic was born in 1981. She began singing as a small girl, in a church choir, during the Bosnian War. Her grandparents encouraged her to continue singing. At 15 she joined a rock band. She plays piano, guitar, and writes her own songs. In 2009 Maja discovered Amália Rodrigues and, subsequently, fell in love with fado. Four years later, she moved to Lisbon, where she has been living and working ever since, fusing fado and sevdalinka music.

This Saturday, Maja comes to Teatro Ibérico to do her thing, and you’re invited.
Here’s what the organizers tell us:
“Sevdalinka is like Fado, a song that was born in the city and which is based on a feeling called “sevdah,” similar to the feeling of “saudade” — a feeling sometimes painful and, for others, comforting.”
Come feel both comfort and pain in this “musical journey through Europe, from East to West.”
