Arts, crafts, and artisanal goods, both edible and wearable, all in a get-away-from-it-all setting.
Everyone’s selling this type of fare in Lisbon these days, and the market held in Jardim da Estrela that runs on the first weekend of every month carries much the same as many others: a decent selection of artisanal jewelry, non-commercial-looking clothing, and various wholesomely presented food options. The artists that come to sell their work here do set this market apart, however. We can’t guarantee she’ll be there every time, but a woman one weekend was selling one-of-a-kind, perfectly creepy oversized papier-mâché dolls, for example.
And what makes it particularly special is the setting: this quiet park in a residential area of the city is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Feira da Ladra or anything in the center. There’s a cafe right next to it if you need some liquid courage, although those in the know head to the kiosk at the north end of the park for better options and nicer staff.
