OUTDOOR CONCERT | Music from Broadway, Film, etc., from Gershwin to Tom Jobim | Chiado | FREE

In this free outdoor concert, the Coro Juvenil de Lisboa brings to life classic compositions immortalized on the stage, on Broadway, and on the big screen, from Gershwin and Cole Porter to Kurt Weil to Tom Jobin.

From the organizers:

Almost half a century separates two songs that we will hear in this programme: Tea for two and A garota de Ipanema. The first, by Vincent Youmans, was written in 1925 for the musical No, no, Nanette, and the second, written in 1962 by António Carlos Jobim and lyrics by the great Brazilian poet Vinicius de Morais, is still a best-selling record today. Throughout the last century, other composers — mostly North-Americans — wrote songs that made history on the screen or on the countless Broadway stages of New York and that remain great classics to this day: Irving Berlin with Puttin’ on the Ritz (1927), Cole Porter with Night and Day (1932), George Gershwin with his ‘S Wonderful (1927) or Nacio Herb Brown with the ever-popular Singing in the Rain (1929). They were all masters in recreating with their melodies a time that we still love to recall with pleasure and nostalgia.
