If you’re not afraid of clowns, or if you are afraid of clowns but realize it’s only because you’re American, you probably noticed when you were a wee kid that, essentially, clowns are very, very sad.
Slava the Clown is a master Russian clown, and founder of the Academy of Fools, so his show is not just sad, it’s full-on melodrama. With a red nose. Sort of like your family vacation, but with better costumes. When this correspondent first went to one of Slava’s first shows in New York, he was crying within the first five minutes, and it wasn’t because he was late on rent for the second time. But then he was laughing. And then… You get the idea.
