to Apr 27 | ART EXHIBIT | Juliana Matsumura: Corpo-Fumo | FREE

April 8 - April 27

Corpo-Fumo (“Body-Smoke”) is the latest solo exhibition by Japanese-Brazilian multimedia (but most drawing) artist Juliana Matsumura, it’s going up at Espaço Cultural Mercês this week, and here’s what organizers Coletivo Tarimba have to say about it:
“The aesthetic richness of Juliana Matsumura’s work captures the eye immediately. The complexity of the lines, the boundaries built between the shades, and the overlays caused by the use of different materials are the perfect invitation to get to know the universe of this one, which is one of the most complete and multidisciplinary artists that Coletivo Tarimba had the opportunity to collaborate with. The diversity of materials and techniques worked in different languages such as printmaking, video, installation, and photography form a complex body of ideas that explore the intersections created by the encounter of dualities. What are the crossing points between the material and the spiritual, between the natural and the artificial? What happens at the limit between memory and forgetfulness, between light and darkness, between the beginning and the end? Juliana’s work invites us to reflect on inevitable transmutations, on the impermanence of things and life, evoking relationships between themes such as nature, spirituality, and ancestry.”

You can reflect on the inevitable transmutations and impermanence of things and life with Juliana all throughout April, for free.

Thurs, Apr 8, 15h-20h.

Mon-Fri: 14h-20h.
Show up until Apr 27.
