When in Lisbon, do as the Romans.
Teatro Romano is more than 220 years old, and it’s some of the best ruins the neighborhood of Alfama has to offer.
This month, it presents a small exhibition on Manuel Caetano de Sousa, the architect who discovered the Roman theater in April 1798. His name was for a long time forgotten, overshadowed by the Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri. Only recently did the discovery of new documents in the Royal Library of Rio de Janeiro reveal the “true discoverer” of this magical place.
Come pay homage to the original Lisboetas and give credit where credit is due.
