O 36 (an homage to the Wu-Tang Clan, as well as the address of this venue) is a dope hip-hop hub close enough to Bairro Alto — but far enough from the selfie sticks — to be locally admired.
In their words, “the space presents a split between the true Lisbon ‘tasca’ and the modern world of Hip-Hop (graffiti, break dancing, MC-ing, DJ-ing/ scratching).”
This year, o 36 turns a decade old.
For such a momentous occasion, they’ve recently had local artists AkaCorleone, Kruella D’Enfer, and Halfstudiosigns pretty up their walls.
And this weekend, they’re throwing a party.
Here’s what’s up, courtesy of the organizers:
“10 years … 10 years … no matter how much it repeats, it seems to us that everything started yesterday.
10 years of open doors where hip hop has been king.
10 years where everyone has contributed to make this little corner of Bairro Alto a meeting point among all lovers of this culture: writers, b-boys, MCs, DJs, producers, and hip hop aficionados.
10 years that, for the milestone they mean, will be unfolded in a two-day party.
On April 5th we close our doors and climb to PARK where we will be welcomed by one of the most breathtaking views of the city of Lisbon, accompanied by some fresh tunes.
More info on that here.
April 6th is celebrated here (at o 36), with three pillars of hip-hop made in Portugal: Dj BIG, Dj Kwan, and a DJ set by Portuguese hip-hop legend Sam the Kid (Samuel Mira) .
Two days of celebration where your presence is essential!
Thank you sincerely and deeply to everyone for these 10 years.”
Come show some love.
