The MONSTRA Animation Film Festival returns this July for its 20th edition and brings with it 12 days of “non-stop animation” in several venues across the city. The heart of the festival, Cinema São Jorge, is at the center of the action, and here’s what the organizers add:
“Last year we invited the award-winner director Alexandre Siqueira to illustrate the poster for MONSTRA 2021. He accepted the challenge and imagined for us a ‘monster’ that evokes – besides hitting the guest country (Belgium) for this 20th edition – the constant restlessness of Animation Film in the discovery of new relationships. This never-ending discovery that is Art also demands new spaces and new screens, making other poetics, other realities, other movements.”
Besides the six competitions and the highlights from Belgium, the festival also includes training courses, exhibitions, and “dialogue with all the other arts that complement the art of animation film.”
