The red-light district refers to an urban area with a concentration of prostitution, sex shops, strip clubs, and adult theaters where, back in the day, red lights were used to mark brothels. Lisbon still has a few of these.
The circus is a 250-year old art form involving clowns, acrobats, trained animals, trapeze acts, musicians, dancers, tightrope walkers, jugglers, magicians, and so on. Lisbon also has a few of these.
And a Red Light Circus? Well, Lisbon has one of those too.
Here’s how the organizers describe it:
“An adult show that explores taboos hidden behind sexual desires. It is a spectacle without barriers that will awaken the erotic impetus through circus art. Everything will be present … the bodies thirsty for desire, the touch of a libido, the mastery of acrobatics, the seductive voice that will guide the audience on this journey. Red Light Circus … the other side of the circus.”
