to Feb 2 | MULTIMEDIA EXHIBIT | XPOSIÇÃO by João Robalo & Teresa Robalo | Santos | FREE
João Robalo and Teresa Robalo are very serious artists. So serious that they refuse to share their last names. João was born in 1989. He studied dance, theater, and cinema right here in Lisbon, and he dabbles in all sorts of performance and visual art, poetry, and music. At the moment he devotes himself to “creating spaces for collective freedom and planting and maintaining trees.”
Teresa was born in “the winter of ’92.” She studied art and graphic design and likes music, poetry, urban art, murals, live painting, and installations. She also works with children and the elderly. She adds, “I keep a strong attraction for handwork, construction, crafts, mixed media, and public space. Although digital is infinite and advantageous, I am pleased to feel that by being able to touch I can also focus on what is real and what surrounds me.”
Rua das Gaivotas 6 welcomes João and Teresa for their latest endeavor between January 11 and February 2.
We’re not really sure what it’s about.
Fortunately — and heads up — João Robalo and Teresa Robalo have a lot to say about it:
“Construction, sharing and permanent reconstruction of the cave, the clearing, the womb, the bonfire, the crannies (of a base, comfortable places flexible to mutations, interventions, and rituals). This is the starting point of our proposal: to build places for meeting and sharing, for experimenting with ideas, sensations, forms, and questions.
On the first day an initiation rite takes place where drinks will be shared, the first sketches will be made and the bodies present in a sound journey guided by Pan.demi.CK will be mixed. Then there are two, but we can be more. Sometimes we are nobody. We don’t know. Which does not stop us from doing. Sensations do not always bring a justification from the start, so we intend to create a space conducive to understanding and free flow of sensations, and that can be transformed according to the intuitions and ideas that come from that understanding and that current.
The plane of logic is left for last. We are doing it until then. After the sensation settles down, it may be clearer what the intention was, what ideas were practiced and how many reflexes can the glades and crannies have.
We don’t know. Let’s do it to find out. If we are. How many and how. For what and why. In the end we talk. We do not guarantee answers.”
In short, come see João and Teresa do it until the plane of logic.
