“We are all stardust.”
Carl Sagan.
Dila Moniz is a Portuguese painter originally from Huambo, Angola. In spite of the implications of holding a Fine Arts degree (Dila has one), her career took off shortly after graduation, and she has exhibited in various countries around the world since. The organizers of her new show, “Stardust,” at Muxima Gallery say this about it:
“STARDUST portrays the search for identity, starting from matter, dust, which is the origin of all beings, despite the various categories and self-definitions created to distinguish different individuals.
Dila uses various techniques to express the feelings and emotions present during the journey in search of the true reflection of the most genuine identity, stripping away all the superficial layers that suffocate and mask individuals to fit into various socially constructed categories.
The exhibition also includes a winter collection of necklaces by the artist, celebrating her African heritage.”
