If you’ve ever been to the airport in Newark, New Jersey, then you know that Lisbon has a pretty good airport.
Nevertheless, you may have heard that the government plans to build a new one, across the river in Montijo, in the middle of a Nature Reserve.
Yes, this will likely take a few more decades (this is Portugal, after all), but what will this mean for the people and animals that live there?
ATERRA (“On the Ground”), a member of the global Stay Ground network, describes itself as “the campaign for the reduction of air traffic, for fair mobility, which respects the boundaries of the planet.”
They have a plan too. They call it Convivio Terra-Aterra (roughly “coexisting with the planet, on the ground”).
Here’s what they promise:
-Beach Cleaning;
-Music;
-Bird Watching;
-Meditation:
-Construction of the Future.
They add:
“Next to the place where they want to build the new Lisbon airport, we are going to stay informed about the impacts of the increase of aviation, and to make the wave grow for fair and ecological mobility, for a clean city, and for the people, for a Tagus full of life!
Less plane, more imagination!

Program under construction :)”

And stay grounded y’all, by any means necessary.
