Choreographer (and Cas Public founder) Hélène Blackburn has taken an unusual step and used her hearing impairment as a starting point for her new creation. Perceiving, experiencing, and understanding. Our senses allow us to apprehend the world around us. This essential condition is like a window to what is outside of us; without it, we are deluded.
How is it possible to grasp the monumental grandeur of the 9th Symphony – one of the masterpieces of the classical repertoire – if, like Beethoven, our hearing is impaired? The performance 9 turned this challenge into a bold, sensory-filled journey. In co-production with the Kopergietery theater, the work was developed to appeal to all generations, breaking the boundaries of silence in order to overcome differences and transform the body into language.”
