Peter Grimes was one of the first operas by Benjamin Britten to be considered a success and a masterpiece of the 20th century.
Inspired by a poem of George Crabbe, “The Borough,” this drama takes place in a fishing village in England quite possibly similar to Aldeburg where Crabbe grew up.
The music is composed around the tormented relationship between the fisher Grimes and his local community.
