to Mar 11 | ART EXHIBIT | Gender in Art: Body, Sexuality, Identity, Resistance | Chiado | 4,50€

December 6, 2017 @ 10:00 - 18:00

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00 on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until March 11, 2018

The purpose of museums is to attempt to answer society’s fundamental questions. Of the many issues we must face, identity imposed by social norms is one, so this show aims to transform each viewer to the opposite side of themselves and take a hard look at the consequences that gender presents: access to wealth, prestige, and power.

The application of these roles is, of course, a personal choice that has resulted in a wide and fluid range of gender identities: heterosexuality, lesbianism, homosexuality, transsexuality, intersexuality, bisexuality, transgenderism and more. It makes gender an act of freedom, diversity, and individual expression, and this exhibit is taking us along for the ride through these dimensions.

Curated by Aida Rechena and Teresa Furtado, the Portuguese artists Alice Geirinhas, Ana Pérez-Quiroga, Ana Vidigal, Carla Cruz, Cláudia Varejão, Gabriel Abrantes, Horácio Frutuoso, João Gabriel, João Galrão, João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, Maria Lusitano, Miguel Bonneville, Thomas Mendonça and Vasco Araújo come together to lead us through all our incarnations.
