to Mar 7 | ART EXHIBIT | 500 Drawings of Silva Porto | Avenida | FREE
Silva Porto (aka António Carvalho de Silva Porto) was born in Porto, up north, 170 years ago in 1850 and he died right here in Lisbon, 43 years later. During his relatively short time on Earth, António made a lot of art, and even studied art in Paris. Despite being little known outside of Portugal, António was still pretty good. His main focus was naturalist painting, but he also liked to draw.
“The 500 Drawings of Silva Porto in the SNBA collection” is described by Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes (“National Society of Fine Arts,” or SNBA, the organizers) as “the largest exhibition of drawings by the painter ever.”
The organizers also add that “this will be the first exhibition that SNBA prepares in partnership with CML, in the year that the city is distinguished as the 2020 European Green Capital.” After all, Silva was a naturalist.
So, there’s that.
Anyway, if you like drawing, you’ll likely like António.
Show up until March 7th.
