João Onofre is a Lisbon-born multimedia artist who, despite exhibiting his work around the world, still lives and works in his hometown. His forte through the years has been video, but he has also dabbled in drawing, photography, soundscapes, and sculpture. Here’s what the organizers of his new retrospective of the last 10 years, “Once in a Lifetime [Repeat],” tell us:
“Of enormous rigor, the production of João Onofre, in the various processes to which he refers, seems to reactivate a certain romantic irony, made rhythmic by the recurrence of the great themes of art history: tension, death, failure, love, and — as a bond that unites everything — language.”
What’s the performance called, you ask?
It’s box sized DIE featuring Cannibal Holocaust.
Now that’s some language for ya.
Free performances on Feb 15 / May 17.
Gallery hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 13h – 18h.
4€ for the exhibit (but free on Sundays).
