The Sintra Music festival returns for its 52nd year for three weeks of extraordinary musicians playing in some pretty extraordinary spaces. This year’s theme is “tradition to modernity,” and aims to expose the public not only to innovative compositions but to venues not normally associated with music, including Palácio de Queluz, Quinta da Piedade, Palácio Naciona de Sintra, the Sintra train station, parks, and more.
The series features Portugal’s legendary pianist Olga Prats, Belgian composer Wim Mertens interpreting a part of his Dust of Truth on the piano, a trio of Russian pianists doing everything from Debussy to Shostakovich, and much, much more. Tickets range from 5€ to 15€, and the Promenade Concert at Terreiro do Palácio Nacional de Queluz on May 27 is free.
The full program is here. Not to be missed, and a good reason to finally get over to Sintra for the sights before the tourists get here!
