to Nov 14 | ART EXHIBT | Diogo Muñoz: Slouching Towards Perfect (in)Sanity | Chiado | FREE
Diogo Muñoz‘ paintings look frighteningly realistic and also out of this world. Which is refreshing in a world of selfies. And which is also probably why, since his first solo show here in Lisbon in 1995, Mr. Muñoz has exhibited his stuff all over Portugal, China, the U.K., Italy, Spain, and Brazil.
His latest show, which, among other things, has a great name — Slouching Towards Perfect (in)Sanity — comes to Cisterna Gallery in October.
Here’s how Diogo describes it:
“In the simulated ballet of Erasmian influences with Quixote, the wisdom of the former takes the form of Madness in the latter’s work. Uncertainty is the guiding thread of Cervantes’s novel. The names, the place, the authorship, the constant vagueness, and the mutability of a reading that is meant to keep pace with the ever-changing world, questions the truth for the wit of imagination. They create a parallel reality, an alternative to linear reading and dogmatism that always fills the place left empty by the absence of ideas.”
Yep, what Diogo said.
Opening and inauguration: Thursday, Oct 3, 19h.
Gallery Hours: Tue-Sat, 11h-19h.
Show up until Nov 14.
