Alkantara (which is like Alcântara the neighborhood but with a “k” instead of the “c” and a regular “a”) describes itself as “a Lisbon-based arts association.” They add:
“We believe that the singular visions and explorations of artists can contribute to our shared reflections and to the development of more open, just, and attentive societies. We encourage the porosity between artistic experimentation and contemporary debates. The projects we develop take dance, theatre, and live performance as their starting point, but they often draw from other artistic practices and areas of knowledge in order to bring different discourses and contexts into dialogue.”
The Alkantara 2021 festival — which is two weeks of dance and theater performances, workshops, art exhibits, open studios, screenings, debates, and all sorts of artistic experimentation — hit various locations throughout Lisbon on Nov. 13, and you can learn more about it (and view the full program) here.
Here’s a glimpse (with English subtitles).
