to Oct 19 | ART AND DANCE FESTIVAL | Cartografias#2: The Body as a Frontier of Resistance | Anjos | 3-7€ @ Forum Dança | Lisboa | Lisboa | Portugal

It’s no secret that, sometimes, one finds themselves thinking about the body’s relationship with psychological vertigo and the desire for annihilation… And, at other times, one just wants to dance.

Here’s what organizer Ezequiel Santos says about CARTOGRAFIAS#2:
“Integrating artists from three continents between shows, workshops and social moments of meeting with the public, ‘The body as a frontier of resistance defines its programmatic line; one is the dance that produces resistance metaphors, creating devices between the political and the aesthetic.

Joana Von Mayer Trindade and Hugo Calhim Cristovão, artists based in the city of Porto, present ‘Dos Suicidados – The Vice of Humiliating Immortality.’ Starting from the work of Raúl Leal, a piece of rare physicality is constructed. This piece also confronts the spectator with a look about the body’s relationship with psychological vertigo and the desire for annihilation.

In collaboration with Portuguese choreographer Nuno Lucas, we present two South Korean artists: Jin Young Park, in an informal show at her Lisbon residence, and Ha Young Bu, a consecrated master who will lead a choreographic research laboratory inspired by Korean traditional dance. The laboratory is open to the community and is a work of great technical and inspiring impact on contemporary dance and theater devices, as the dimension of corporeality is developed as a resistance to social stereotypes.

As emerging artists and participants in Forum Dança training courses, Clarissa Rêgo, Bruno Brandolino, Bibi Dória, Marta Ramos and Blanche Denarnaud will also present solos that reflect dramas and fictions about the conditions of late modernity: these artists move between physical nudity and the representations of the grotesque, relying on the rawness of scenic means and the conscious, cultural, and experiential emanations of themselves.”

Yep, what Ezequiel said.
