Iron masks can’t stop three divas from belting their arias off, at least not at Teatro Aberto. Be sure to catch one of three performances of this modern opera, and stay for dinner afterwards in the adjoining restaurant. The fondue itself is something to sing about.
NOTE: The Friday and Saturday performances are at 21h30, the Sunday performance is at 16h.
From the organizers:
The opera Três Mulheres com Máscara de Ferro (Three Women in an Iron Mask) by Agustina Bessa-Luís will be presented three times only in Teatro Aberto’s Blue Room.
Agustina Bessa-Luís João Lourenço challenged composer Eurico Carrapatoso to write the music for this drama in an act, from the namesake and unpublished text by Agustina Bessa-Luís. The musical accompaniment was composed for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano. The program includes the unpublished text by Agustina Bessa-Luís in a bilingual edition alongside images of the original manuscript dated 1998. The world premiere of this opera took place on 14 October 2014 in the CAM Auditorium at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and 17 and 18 October 2014, in the Blue Room of the Open Theater.
