to Sept 2 | PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT | Yigal Gawze: Form and Light | Belém | FREE-5€

August 8, 2019 @ 11:00 - 19:00

€5

Several architects fleeing Nazi Germany went to British Palestine and built a bunch of buildings now commonly referred to as “the White City,” in what is now Israel.

From the interwebs:
“The White City refers to a collection of over 4,000 buildings built in a unique form of the Bauhaus or International Style in Tel Aviv from the 1930s by German Jewish architects who immigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine after the rise of the Nazis. Tel Aviv has the largest number of buildings in the Bauhaus/International Style of any city in the world. In 2003, UNESCO proclaimed Tel Aviv’s White City a World Cultural Heritage.”

Yigal Gawze was born in Tel Aviv in 1952. Today, he is an architect and photographer. Fragments of a Style is a series of photographs of the White City by Yigal, and Form and Light is the exhibit inspired by this series. It’s at the MAAT (a non-Bahaus marvel of form and light all its own) until Sept. 2.

FREE-5€.
