Lisbon-born-and-raised painter, world traveler, and generally good dude David Arranhado has been residing in Brazil since before the pandemic. Yet he tends to come back to the city that made him once a year or so (on average) to catch up with its residents, embrace its energy, and gift it with an always refreshingly impressive display of artistic mastery at its finest. This year, said artistic mastery is evidenced by his solo exhibit Sintropia.
Here’s what David says about it:
“It’s about how you relate with others, and how you relate with context. It was a concept that I’m using in the exhibition because it’s related to syntropic agriculture, which is a way to produce in a forest environment. You put several species together that help each other in a certain way. For example, you put a banana tree and a coffee tree together — and as the banana grows, it makes shade for the coffee, and the coffee grows… So it’s something that promotes relationships into a perspective where everybody becomes better. That’s the idea.. a syntropic way to live.”
NOTE: The show is in a gallery adjacent to the MAD gallery in Marvilla, and the address for it is Rua Amorim número 3.
