Expired COVID Certificate in Portugal? Here’s How to Renew It

The digital COVID certificates issued in Portugal originally had a six-month validity, but that was extended by three months in December.

If you received your certificate more than six months earlier, the certificate will show up as expired when scanned in at, say, restaurants and other establishments, as we found out this weekend. However, you can extend it by going to https://www.sns24.gov.pt/certificado-digital-covid/#aceder.

Just make sure you select one of the options below before putting in your date of birth and SNS number.

You’ll receive a code on the phone number registered with your SNS profile, which you can then insert on the same webpage to receive an updated certificate. Ours did not come with an expiration date, so maybe mark the nine-month cutoff in your calendar…
