Update 2023: The place is now called SUL Osteria Do Povo and serves Italian food. They haven’t changed too much inside, but obviously it’s no longer the Portuguese restaurant that Guarda-Mor is. Stay tuned for a review!

If you like traditional Portuguese fare, you’ve come to the right place. Guarda-Mor is located on a tiny travessa in Santos, so keep a sharp eye open if you’re fresh out of data. On Wednesdays, this is a great place to catch some real fado sung by men AND women which is at times difficult to find. Local fado devotees can be found inside showing their pleasure (or lack thereof) with the performers, so it’s almost as much of a treat to watch the crowd as it is the artists. Unlike a lot of fado spots, they don’t charge admission and there is no drink limit if you just came for the music.
