Joana, Rui, and Nuno Are Out! Most Popular Names for Portuguese Babies in ’23 Revealed

The most popular girl's name in Portugal remains Maria, and it's again Francisco for boys.

The data is in: Maria, Alice, Leonor, Matilde, Benedita, Carolina, Beatriz, Francisca, Camila, and Margarida were the most popular names for girls this year, according to data released to news outlets by Portugal’s Ministry of Justice.

No Joanas. We’re shocked.

The most popular boys’ names, meanwhile, were Francisco, Afonso, Duarte, Lourenço, Tomás, João, Vicente, Gabriel, Miguel, and Martim.

We’re going to miss having all the Ruis and Nunos. Also, no Antónios in the top 10?!
