Macau Dim Sum is only the latest of many names for this magnificent emporium of dough-covered goodness. There are seemingly endless choices of dim sum and dumplings, and if one is to judge a Chinese restaurant by its hot and sour soup, as one should, this one is among the best in the country. Stranger dishes for the more adventurous include the sumptuous jelly fish salad and shark fin dumplings, but there is plenty of regular fare for the more timid. The ambience is not why you’re here, but it’s clean and spacious and a far cry from the buffet Chinese restaurants littering the city, and the crabs in the aquarium make for excellent pre-dinner conversation companions. Macau Dim Sum also employs some of the friendliest, smiliest staff, who are also uncharacteristically efficient at bringing you the platters and 1.75€ Tsingtao beers. This may also be the last hole in the wall to get a regular old gin and tonic, without the caraway seeds or whatever else nonsense Lisbon insists on killing the drink with. And it’ll set you back 3.50€.
