A friend and I sought lunch in the shade, so we grabbed a table out the front of this local tasca just off of Avenida Republica and settled in under the large umbrellas. Within moments the waiter was at the table ready for drink orders, dropping menus as they arrived — something atypical of most places around town. We all chose from the pratos do dia menu: the bitoque de vaca with the special house sauce was my pick while my friend went for the grilled chocos served with a side of veggies. The food came quickly, expertly done, and big enough to share. Since it was a working lunch, we were there for a while, so we were able to finish everything and digest enough of it to go for the bolo de bolacha (sugar cookie cake with cream) dessert. We were in luck and got the last piece, which was meant to be split in two but was deemed too small and served as one. For a no-frills tasca, they delivered five-star service.
