Nova Batida 2018: What to Expect

Lisbon is getting hip. Super hip. And with that hipdom, a festival has been born. That festival? Nova Batida. A mix of “the latest music, culture, and lifestyle” from around the globe, brought together in LX Factory and Village Underground.

Despite being the first-ever edition of Nova Batida, the festival has managed to bring in some pretty major names. This includes Mount Kimbie, Little Dragon, George Fitzgerald, Seun Kuti, Max Cooper, and Gilles Peterson — the last of which is pretty exciting, big up BBC Radio 6. That is just the tip of the iceberg, and the full list of the festival’s diverse range of acts can be found below.

It isn’t just the big names, however, as Nova Batida also hopes to help give rise to smaller acts. Additionally, the three-day festival plans to go beyond just music by having a focus on surfing and yoga as well. This will all be happening alongside street performers in what the organizers hope will be a reflection of Lisbon’s varied, intertwined communities.

Interestingly, there are also four boat parties. Harking back to the maritime roots of Lisbon, perhaps? Also, you may notice that the festival runs from Sept. 14 to 16. The Friday and Saturday are the big days, with Sunday providing an afterparty.

Day tickets are 35€, and general passes are 70€. They can be purchased at Ticketline and the other usual places. Tickets for the boat parties are 20€.

Atlas will be there for most of it (we’ll probably have Atlas stickers on our classy notepads), so feel free to say hi. If you do, use the codeword “Purple Octopus.” You won’t win anything, but it will probably unsettle our reporters somewhat, so that’s something.
